Imagine a story that evolves with you; a narrative that dynamically and imperceptibly adapts across branching storylines. For Signal Space Lab, this vision took form in Afterlife, an interactive film in #virtualreality exploring the vastness of grief and love in a family. The film, directed by Luisa Valencia, contributes to the future of interactive narrative filmmaking.
Designed in three chapters with twenty-nine individual branches, over 5,000 unique playthrough combinations and multiple endings, the scale of this branching story has no precedent in the live-action VR world. To accomplish this in a non-intrusive way where transitions organically evolve, without the audience noticing and without the use of UI elements, the studio developed a proprietary technique called Seamless Interactive Cinematic VR.
"Afterlife is the next experiment in immersive interactive narrative from Signal Space Lab that underscores how much can be done with this emerging medium. The rules are far from written, and this experience demonstrates important progress.” - Keram Malicki-Sanchez, Founder and Programmer, VRTO Conference, FIVARS Festival
Afterlife is set to release August 21st, 2019, on VR platforms (#VivePort, #PlayStationVR, #Oculus -Rift, Go, GearVR- and #Steam), with a special 360-degree adaptation for iOS devices on the #AppStore.
